MILITARIZATION AT THE BORDER
VICE // DIRECTOR & SHOOTER
Along the Texas-Mexico border a group of citizens, with the help of grassroot organizations and the ACLU, are given the tools and empowerment to film interactions and arrests by Border Patrol and ICE upon the residents of their community. Since 2003, almost 100 people have been killed by border patrol agents in various situations. ICE’s secrecy and lack of transparency has lead the citizens of Brownsville, Texas to take matters into their own hands by using MigraCam, an app that can livestream suspicious moments to close family members and friends, ensuring a public record of what happens on the ground. Communities like Brownsville have experienced a significant increase in traffic stops for minor — or even falsified — infractions, often leading to deportation.
